Springfield Roadster 1888

This Springfield Roadster was manufactured in 1888 by the Ames Manufacturing Co. in Chicopee Falls Massachusetts. This high wheel safety positions the rider slightly back of the center of gravity using a raked front fork thus reducing the risk of a header. The drive wheel moves by a geared clutch mechanism to the front axle driven in an up and down motion by the cranks.
