The "Tourist" was a unique bicycle lamp manufactured by William Bown, Birmingham England and offered in 1893/94 by Geo. Bidwell Cycle Co.,N.Y.C.. This lamp uses two red side prisms that magnify light, making the lamp visible when approached from the rear. Another unique feature of the "Tourist" is the gimbaled mounting bracket that allows the lamp to remain upright if the cycle is leaning over to one side. This would theoretically prevent the spilling of the lamp's oil. A bit of sophisticated cycling technology.
